ICTlist.org at the German IT summit

ICTlist.org was one of the projects featured at the German Government’s Second IT Summit in Hanover on Dec 10, 2007. The Summit’s aim is to promote cooperation between Government agencies, industry and the scientific community in the field of Information and Communication Technology. The Summit was attended by Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel, several federal ministers and leading representatives of the German IT Industry, among them SAP’s CEO Prof. Henning Kagermann, Bitkom (the German IT industry association) president Prof. August Wilhelm Scheer, Software AG’s CEO Karl-Heinz Streibich and others. Foreign Office State Secretary Georg Boomgaarden said at the summit he welcomed very much the launch of ICTlist.org and he hoped that the website will develop into an important tool for international cooperation in the field of IT research. According to Boomgaarden, who was the German Foreign Office IT director between 1986 and 1989, ICTlist.org is an instrument in the Foreign Office’s efforts to intensify German foreign policy in the field of science and research. He said German Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier was deeply engaged in this intensification. Prof. Christoph Meinel, Director of the Hasso Plattner Institute, together with the Foreign Office one of the initiators of ICTlist.org, said: “it is our wish to create an internet platform on which young scientist can start cooperation and discuss their publications.”
